Seven monuments, seven box offices, and combination tickets that do not always pay. Here is the full table — plus the time arithmetic that decides which ones fit in one day.

There is no single ticket covering all of Sintra. Each monument has its own box office, and five of them — Pena, the Moorish Castle, Monserrate, the National Palace of Sintra and the Convent of the Capuchos — are run by the same body, Parques de Sintra, on a shared table of age bands. Quinta da Regaleira and Biester Palace are private and set their own rules.

Prices for every monument

Bands: youth 6–17, adult 18–64, senior 65+. Family = 2 adults + 2 young people. Children aged 5 and under go free.

The combinations that make sense

A combination ticket saves money, but the deciding factor should not be the discount — it should be geography. Sintra has two axes that do not connect well:

The hill axis (bus 434)

Pena Palace + Moorish Castle. Ten minutes apart on foot. It is the most efficient pairing Sintra offers: no time lost travelling between them. Allow 3–4 hours for Pena and 1 hour 30 for the castle.

The town axis (bus 435 and walking)

Quinta da Regaleira + Monserrate, or Regaleira + National Palace of Sintra. All on the same line, none of them requiring a 30-minute uphill walk. It is the most comfortable day in Sintra.

The mixed combination

Pena + Quinta da Regaleira is the best-selling combo and it does work — but it forces you down from the hill to the town mid-day. It only holds together with a Pena slot before 10:30.

What we do not recommend

Pena + Monserrate on the same day: opposite ends, different buses, and the time in transit eats the visit. And any three-monument combination that includes Pena Palace.

Building the day in four decisions

  1. Pick the Pena slot

    It is the only fixed time. Early morning to dodge the crowds; from 16:00 if you prefer afternoon light and fewer people.

  2. Pick the second monument by axis

    If Pena is the morning, the Moorish Castle afterwards is the natural route. If Pena is the afternoon, do Regaleira in the morning, down in the town.

  3. Add up the real times

    30 min climb at Pena, 45–60 min interior, 1 hour park, 1 hour 30 at the castle. That is five hours before you count any travel.

  4. Buy the right rates

    Ages 6–17 and over-65s pay less at every Parques de Sintra monument. Two adults with two young people almost always win on the family rate.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a single ticket for all Sintra monuments?

There is no official pass covering everything. Each monument has its own ticket, though Parques de Sintra applies a shared table to the five it manages. Resellers sell two-monument combinations.

What is the cheapest ticket in Sintra?

The Convent of the Capuchos at €11 for an adult. Among the higher-demand monuments, the Moorish Castle and Monserrate cost €12, the same as Pena’s park-only ticket.

How many monuments can you see in a day?

Two, properly. Three is possible if they are all in the town and you skip the parks, but it means seeing everything at a jog and arriving at the last one exhausted.

Are combination tickets worth it?

They are when the pairing is geographically coherent. Pena + Moorish Castle and Regaleira + Monserrate work. Pena + Monserrate on the same day does not.

Do all the monuments need a timed slot?

No. Only the Pena Palace interior runs on hourly slots. Everything else can be entered at any point during opening hours.

Do children pay at Sintra’s monuments?

Children aged 5 and under go free at every monument run by Parques de Sintra. From 6 to 17 the youth rate applies.
