Pena Palace prices: the official table and every discount

Pena Palace prices do not depend on your nationality, a tourist card or the time of year. They depend on two things: the age of the person going in, and which type of visit you pick. Below is the full table exactly as Parques de Sintra publishes it, plus the sums worth doing before you pay.

Who gets in free

The free admission published by Parques de Sintra applies to children aged 5 and under across every monument it manages. No companion ticket, no registration — but bring something that proves the age, because it is asked for at the gate fairly often.

There is no monthly free-entry day at Pena Palace, unlike some Portuguese state museums. Pena is not run by the Directorate-General for Cultural Heritage, so it does not follow the free-Sunday-morning scheme.

What earns you nothing

• University student status. From 18 you pay the adult rate.
• A Lisboa Card on its own. It does not admit you to Pena; commercial packages bundle the two, but that is not an official discount.
• Living in Sintra. The official table sets no general resident rate.

When a combined ticket saves, and when it does not

A combination ticket always costs less than the separate tickets added up — but it only saves money if you make both time slots. The useful sum is not the discount: it is the time.

The pairings that work in practice

• Pena + Moorish Castle. Same road, 10 minutes apart on foot. The only pairing that does not force you back down to the town. Allow 3–4 hours for Pena and 1 hour 30 for the castle: it fits in a day without rushing.
• Pena + Quinta da Regaleira. Regaleira is down in the town. It is a full day with a bus ride in the middle. It works if you start at Pena at 09:30.
• Pena + Monserrate. Monserrate is 4 km west. You need the 435 bus or a car. Only advisable if you have two days in Sintra.

The one we do not recommend

Pena plus three monuments in a single day. It is sold, but the result is a day spent in queues and buses, seeing everything at a jog. Sintra rewards people who pick two places and do them properly.

Why resellers charge more

Compare the official table with an authorised reseller and you will find a few euros of difference. That is a distribution margin, not a hidden fee. What you get for it:

• A ticket on your phone, issued immediately.
• Combinations the official box office does not sell.
• On some products, a cancellation policy — the official timed ticket has none at all.

If you want the absolute minimum price and already know the date and time, buy from the official site. If you are still assembling the day, or you want cancellation cover, a reseller earns its margin.
